About

George Babnick’s Physical Security Online is devoted to promoting critical thinking among physical security professionals and is a platform where security professionals can connect and share thoughts, ideas, research, and best practices. It is intended to facilitate a deeper understanding of physical security issues and related disciplines like supervision and management of security personnel, investigations, risk management, emergency response and management, and personal safety.

Physical security has been generally defined as measures or systems designed to restrict or deny unauthorized access to facilities, equipment and resources, and to safeguard property and personnel from damage or harm. It should be recognized that physical security is not an absolute as something is not either secure or unsecure. Rather, physical security involves a broad range of varied but related practices and disciplines which often overlap to form a continuous series of interdependent security systems or controls.

In today’s world, physical security is constantly changing in both technique and technology. Because of this fluidity security professionals must have a deep understanding of “best practices” and emerging research. Simply stated, security professionals need to know what works and what does not work. Additionally, to meet increasing challenges, security professionals need to keep abreast of new innovative approaches to security issues.

As editor of this blog, I share your vision of a more secure world. It is my intent to provide a platform to share critical information related to physical security and to facilitate the exchange of information for all those who work in, or have an interest in, the varied aspects of physical security.

Please feel free to post your thoughts and comments about anything you read on this blog and please mention this blog to anyone you feel might have an interest in it.  If you are interested in submitting an article, please see author guidelines under SUBMIT ARTICLE.
